Chet's Corner: 2019 Football Superlatives

It is finally here folk's. I've put a lot of work, thought, effort, and sweat into this and it will not lie, it was really difficult to make some decisions here. But like I said, it is finally here: The Radnor Rundown 2019 Radnor Football Superlatives  Congratulations to all of our award winners, and to all of our sponsors! It was another historic season for the program that will go down in the record books. So without further adue, here are the winners. The New Wayne Pizza UNIT of the Year: Daetrel Jerome. Daetrel did whatever he wanted on the field this year. He manhandled opposing defensemen week after week, and that is why he is our UNIT of the year. The Wayne Sporting Goods Most Likely to Kick the Game-Winning Field Goal: Jack Lindgren. Jack might be the only kicker on the roster, but there is no other Radnor kicker I would trust with the game on the line. Congratulations, Jack. The Pipeline Taco Coach of the Year: Tom Ryan. I think this goes without saying. Co...

As you probably heard, Chet & I have gotten the green light to cover Radnor Basketball in an official capacity this year. We are blessed to receive this opportunity through our sponsor, DEVOUR™ Foods, as well as Jesus. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you in the #RadnorBasketballFamily on a personal level as I learn the intricacies of a new sport. As any Journalist would do when assigned to a new case, I went to twitter.com to do my research. I was very unnerved to find not one, but TWO Radnor Basketball accounts! Which one should be trusted? How high up does this go? Why is Chet banned from BOTH of the Starbucks in Wayne? These unanswered questions left me reeling, so I decided to launch an investigation. Have you heard of DEVOUR™ Foods? Hurry out to your lo...

Chet's Corner - That's A Wrap

As the Radnor's football season came to a close on Friday. What's next? A time of reflection, rest, and preparation for another playoff run in 2020. For head coach Tom Ryan, the reflection and rest take a bit of a back seat to preparation for next year. On Saturday after the game, I sat down with Coach Ryan to discuss Friday's game, the season, and the outlook going forward. The season might be over, but the work never stops. We have a really great group of returners in 2020 and are starting to plan for next year first thing next week. These guys are hungry for more and are ready to put in the offseason work. Wow. That is a great mind set. It is really exactly what you want to see in a head coach.  Radnor closed off its 2018 season with a playoff win against Marple N...

Whose Hiring?

This quality content is brought to you by DEVOUR ™ Foods. Look for delicious, ready-made meals in the frozen section of your grocery store.  DEVOUR ™  Foods, Always Ridiculously Good. Last Friday's crushing defeat at the hands of Penn Wood has left us all with some unanswered questions. What now? When does training camp start again? What am I going to do with myself until then? How am I going to pay my rent this month? What am I going to tell my money grubbing ex-wife when she comes knocking for child support later this week? Unfortunately, I do not have the answers. Since Chet & I started our own independent media company, I have not received a single paycheck. I have recently found out that this is "part of the territory" when it comes to independent Journalism. If you ask me, it's a raw deal. On most days, I'm working longer hours and I don't even get an office anymore. Instead I have to work in my cold, windowless studio apartment that smells li...

Chet's Corner - Is Radnor About to Shock Everybody?

If sporting events were decided on paper, then history would look a lot different. Would we have ever seen the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LII? Or the New Jersey Devils win the 1995 Stanley Cup Final? Or really for that matter, the Radnor High School Red Raiders win the first round of the District 1 5A playoffs against Marple Newtown in 2018? No. And that is exactly why they play the games - because upsets happen. Now, don't get me wrong, Penn Wood is favored in this game (-6.5 as of today, October 31st) and are a great team. But if you look closely, you'll see Radnor is set up really well to pull a major upset on Kerr Field. I chatted (or should I say, Chetted (Chet-Ed, ha ha ha)) with a fellow member of the Radnor Football Family, the one and only Chris Long, to talk Radnor Football. Chris had this to say: Per Google Maps, I type this 1,157 miles away from Radnor High School. I spend my Fridays monitoring the happenings on the frozen tundras of Minnesota high scho...

PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Radnor vs. Penn Wood - featuring Celebrity Picks

Image
Playoffs?! That's right. PLAYOFFS. In case you live under one of those big rocks on the corner of Radnor Chester Road & Raider Road, the Radnor Red Raiders (5-5) will be traveling to take on the Penn Wood Patriots (6-4) this Friday in the first round of the PIAA District 1 5A playoffs. This will be a tough test for the Raiders, but if there's one thing that the #RadnorFootballFamily knows, it's that this team is up for the challenge. After digesting all of the film that I could get my hand's on, I have a few thoughts about this game: Penn Wood has some VERY ugly uniforms I don't like ANY team called the Patriots Penn Wood likes to run single-high Cover 1 defense, so expect DiLella to stretch the field. Dixon could have a big game. Expect PW to stack the box on early downs. Will the Raiders make the necessary adjustments to their pass defense after last week's loss? Or will they lay down and do nothing like that BUM Howie Roseman! Co...

Chet's Corner: Radnor vs. Marple Newtown Preview (ft. Jill Demmy)

To quote Walter White, "there is the easy way and there is the right way." If any Delaware County football team has put this on display this season, it has been Radnor. Led by Delco Coach of the Year candidate Tom Ryan, this squad has been relentless on the field. Much like a good South Philly Cheesesteak, this team has been on a roll the last few weeks. For the Class of 2020 (except any of those being held back a year - I feel your pain), this will be their last regular season game at Prevost Field. With that in mind, they will certainly look to extend the team's current winning streak (Lower Merion, Conestoga). Radnor is currently top four in the county in offensive yards gained (344.3 ypg) and defensive yards allowed (186.4ypg)* and the Raiders occupy the 10th playoff seed going into Friday. Compared to Marple Newtown (249.4 OYPG, 234.6 DYPG), the Raiders look to have an advantage, yet enter this game as 3 point underdogs** at home. I expect this to be a thrill...

Radnor vs. Marple Newtown Preview - featuring Chris Long

It's that time of year again folk's. The leaves have turned, the air has turned crisp & cool, and my colleague Chet Runway has been fired from another job for unruly behavior. You know what this means... the PLAYOFFS are nearly upon us. From here on out, every game means more. This Friday's game is no exception. The Raider's host the Marple Newtown Tigers in a rematch of last years playoff thriller that was recently voted the Best Game in Radnor Football History by fans.  As promised, I had the pleasure of speaking with fan favorite and brand new member of the #RadnorFootballFamily, Chris Long, of KSTP TV, who offered the following. Chris's Prediction: "I'm sure amazing memories of Jahmir Rider's catch at the gun to win last year's playoff clash with Marple Newtown are still swirling in Raider fans' heads. But, as *any* Chris Long would tell you... that was last year. The Raiders motivation ahead of this year's regula...
