As the Radnor's football season came to a close on Friday. What's next? A time of reflection, rest, and preparation for another playoff run in 2020. For head coach Tom Ryan, the reflection and rest take a bit of a back seat to preparation for next year. On Saturday after the game, I sat down with Coach Ryan to discuss Friday's game, the season, and the outlook going forward.
The season might be over, but the work never stops. We have a really great group of returners in 2020 and are starting to plan for next year first thing next week. These guys are hungry for more and are ready to put in the offseason work.
Wow. That is a great mind set. It is really exactly what you want to see in a head coach.
Radnor closed off its 2018 season with a playoff win against Marple Newtown, and while this season did not end with the same fireworks, there is a lot to be pleased with from the team. The linebacker crew showed significant improvement, recording 118 tackles in 2019 vs. 77 in 2018, 81 in 2017, and 55 in 2016.
Radnor tied up the all time series with Lower Merion with a 49-6 rout of the Bulldogs
Jamir Dixon continued to stretch the field, finishing with the most touchdowns of any wide receiver in Delaware County, and will return to the Raiders in 2020.
The key pieces are in place, and while the loss of the class of 2020 will certainly hurt, the Raiders look like they will bounce back strong in 2020.
I would like to take a minute to tell you about DEVOUR™ Foods frozen Carnivore pizzas. Whether you love deep dish, thin crust, or Sicilian, we can all agree on one pizza truth: more meat is better. That's why we created The Carnivore, the ultimate meat lovers' pizza. We started with the trifecta: ITALIAN SAUSAGE, APPLEWOOD SMOKED BACON, and diced PEPPERONI. We loaded these meats onto our buttery crispy thick crust, added a punch of our zesty tomato sauce and ooey, GOOEY MOZZARELLA cheese. So get ready to unleash your inner carnivore. We won't judge you if you growl.
In addition, Radnor has promising young prospects coming up off of the freshmen and JV squads, so do not sleep on the future of this team. The loss of lineman Patrick Boujoukos will hurt, but he has instilled a hungry culture on the line that will benefit the team for years to come.
The sting of the loss hurts now for the Raiders, but to quote my favorite band of all time, Semisonic, "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end, yeah. I know who would want to take me home. I know who would want to take me home. I know who would want to take me home, take me home."
