Chet's Corner: Radnor vs. Marple Newtown Preview (ft. Jill Demmy)
To quote Walter White, "there is the easy way and there is the right way." If any Delaware County football team has put this on display this season, it has been Radnor. Led by Delco Coach of the Year candidate Tom Ryan, this squad has been relentless on the field. Much like a good South Philly Cheesesteak, this team has been on a roll the last few weeks.
For the Class of 2020 (except any of those being held back a year - I feel your pain), this will be their last regular season game at Prevost Field. With that in mind, they will certainly look to extend the team's current winning streak (Lower Merion, Conestoga).
Radnor is currently top four in the county in offensive yards gained (344.3 ypg) and defensive yards allowed (186.4ypg)* and the Raiders occupy the 10th playoff seed going into Friday. Compared to Marple Newtown (249.4 OYPG, 234.6 DYPG), the Raiders look to have an advantage, yet enter this game as 3 point underdogs** at home. I expect this to be a thriller of a game, and a close one at that. But I do expect the Red Raiders to come out on top and move higher into the playoff seeding.
I say 28-24 Radnor off of some late game heroics by quarterback Sam DiLella and the Raiders offense.
I got to speak with Jill Demmy, who is a strong front runner for Radnor Football's biggest fan, to get her thoughts on the game. "This team is just fun to watch!" said Demmy.
"Marple is always a tough opponent. I'm feeling confident that our Raiders are going to show up for the competition. There's history to battle out so the game will be intense! It's going to [be] a close one for sure!! I'm going with Radnor 21 Marple 14. These boys are going to end their regular season on a high. They've made some mistakes but they've played their hearts out this season and have really come together. Keep it up Double D!! [Sam DiLella and Jahmir Dixon (WR)] GO RAIDERS!"
Demmy also added that her son, a graduate of Radnor High School, predicts the Raiders win 28-21.
Jill is absolutely right. There is a lot of history in this game, especially recent history. Many of you remember last year's playoff thriller in which Radnor beat the Tigers on the last play of the game.
While we do not know for sure how this game will play out, we know two things:
1. It is going to be a great game
2. My former boss is an asshole! Just look at me now! I'm loving life! So take that!!
